IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY IN OTTAWA, ONTARIO

What are occupations?

Occupation does not only refer to your work life. Occupations are all the activities you complete in a day - alone, with family/friends, and in society as a whole. Some of these occupations are leisure and social activities that you choose to engage in, while others are mandatory activities such as bathing and preparing meals.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy focuses on supporting and improving engagement with meaningful everyday activities to increase quality of life. It addresses the challenges you may have in taking care of yourself, being productive (at school, at work or at home) and participating in leisure activities. This approach involves finding solutions that consider the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of the person.

Occupational therapy sessions may focus on:

  • Learning coping, self-regulation, relaxation and stress management skills

  • Education and tools regarding chronic pain symptom management

  • Promoting the use of self-regulation and sensory strategies

  • Planning, initiating and tracking short- and long-term goals that enable participation in activities most important to you

  • Identifying and implementing healthy/positive habits and structuring them into routines

  • Modifying your environment to support improved attention, participation, and decreased sensory overload at school and/or at work

  • Developing skills for self-awareness, assertiveness, social and interpersonal skills, resiliency and role building
